Welcome to Alveley Primary School

Cedar 2020-2021

We have had a busy time in Cedar! We have taken lots of our learning outdoors.

Cedar had the opportunity to go to the Country Park for our trip! We started our morning by having a mini-beast hunt. We looked underneath logs and in the forest area for different mini-beasts. We found lots of slugs, worms, woodlouse and even a newt! We then had a go at den building. We listened carefully to the ranger about how we needed to make sure that our dens were waterproof. We used different materials that we could find and worked as a team to create our dens!

Cedar had a wonderful medieval day! We all came in our costumes. Children came dressed as kings, queens, princesses and knights! We enjoyed a variety of medieval activities. We started our day off by making some crowns fit for a king or queen. After this we had a go at making our own stained glass windows. In the afternoon we enjoyed a medieval banquet. We tried lots of different foods such as dried fruit, marzipan, cheese and bread. Here are some pictures of our day!

After planting our sunflower seeds and watching them grow into seedlings we continued to learn about the lifecycle of a sunflower and introduced a new word ‘germination’. We worked in partners to order the pictures and demonstrate the sunflower lifecycle. We have also taken our sunflowers home to plant and watch grow!

We spent a week outside exploring capacity in Maths. We have also been busy planting in our Science lessons. We have grown and looked after sunflowers. Children now have the opportunity to continue to look after their plants at home!

We also had a very special visitor to our playground this week. We investigated and predicted what we thought had happened by looking at what our visitor had left behind. We then discovered a video of a dragon on our playground and we made instructions all about how to trap it!

A new topic of Castles has captured Cedar class. Children have enjoyed exploring castles through virtual tours and have discovered lots of new information to create their own fact files. Pupils have started creating their own shields, practising the skill of weaving.

We have come to the end of our first week back! We have had a fantastic week back altogether! Today we enjoyed our afternoon in Forest School! Here are some pictures! 🌳

It has been an exciting start to our year in Cedar class. It has been fantastic to meet all the children that have moved up from Reception into Year One and welcome back children in Year Two.

We have started our topic on ‘Toys’. We have thought a lot about our favourite toys and why they are special to us. Here is a picture of our favourite toys!

In Maths we have been thinking about place value to 10 and 50. We have used lots of practical resources to explore number, here are some pictures!

We enjoyed our first PE session in the hall and thought about ball skills including rolling. We have also enjoyed time at forest school!
